核電廠爆炸的瞬間影像,在媒體重複放送下儼然成為一個類911事件的視覺奇觀,也傳播了極具感染力的恐懼。藝術家唏噓專家和官員總在事後才表明「我們沒有想到會發生這種事」,因此邀請觀眾以自製的核電廠紙模型,一起模擬複製這個爆炸瞬間,親臨現場並以影像捕捉那難以控制的變化,重新去理解「意外」的當下語境,和現實社會中所運作的荒謬機制。

Media had turned the image of Fukushima nuclear power plant explosion into a September 11-like visual spectacle to spread the inflective fear around the globe. However, the officials and experts seemed to only respond, “we did not expect something like this”. The artist decides to capture the moment of explosion from a homemade nuclear power plant model by himself as a satirical video, and invites audience to reproduce their own moments of out-of-control. Through the reproduction of explosion and the act of capturing the image, this interactive invitation explores the up-to-date context of “accident” and the ridiculous social operation in reality.

持續構圖中的幸福笑容卻逐漸失去從容的神情,甚至流露出尷尬、焦慮的情緒。承受過核輻射污染的災民,如何面對外在的凝視/歧視?患難中保持積極樂觀是一種姿態的選擇,還是迫於現實無奈?觀者/攝影者與影像中的被觀看對象相互凝視的張力,在此虛構的美滿幻像裡,勾勒出情感流動的路徑。而作品所製造出來的這個情境,更諷喻一種不可能的生存法則。
We Are All Fine

In the process of composing a family portrait with cheerful smiles, the family gradually loses their ease, and reveals an awkward anxiety. Artists try to imagine how radiation victims could survive the gaze or discrimination from the outside norms: is there any option for them to keep optimism after such catastrophe? What is surrendered to the reality in this stormy incident? The tension between the viewer/photographer and the objects depicts the flux of emotion in a fictional image of happiness, while this scenario becomes an irony of an impossible principle for survival.

作品改寫天空之城(拉普達童話)的文本,嵌入了大量與現實連結卻易被忽視的資訊。
天空、飛行、磁能、「永動機」、雲端,作為人類對能源利用的最終級想像,事實上隱藏著最具破壞性、並且已經發生的結構:我們的「雲端」幻想透過「磁電轉換」的原理支撐我們極度輕盈的當代生活;我們所發明的美好國度背後,就像文本中的北卡羅萊納州,早已成為資訊帝國google、臉書、蘋果最骯髒的黑色「天空之城」。透過這個對於大他者主宰地球能源和知識系統的想像連結,可見到資訊在這場「能源」戰爭的角色總是被低估,因為他們並不想讓我們知道太多,只希望我們一直儲存……
另外,藝術家也將製造一個事件,找來樂手一起用以另類能源(人力、風力、水力)發電的電力裝置進行樂隊表演。並在表演前舉辦DIY工作坊。

Huang continues his series of The Red Eyes of Tom Boy, which addresses to the relation between the tomato industry and the global political, economical and environmental development. In this new series, tomatoes meet a new challenge of radiation contamination from a nuclear explosion in their origin in East Turkestan, and the new crisis of genetic mutation and energy supply. The shortcut to the solution is to make tomatoes into the new source of power. The presentation includes artist’s hand drawing installation, and the product of tomato juice’s new look—a dye sensitized solar cell that generates electricity on-site.

1953年12月8日,美國總統艾森豪在聯合國大會上發表演說「原子和平說」(Peace for Atoms),為冷戰時期的原能發展提供了一個和平運用的想像空間,這篇演講稿為唯一投放過原子彈的國家樹立其原能發展其正當性,也成為全球核武競爭的美麗託辭,其所帶來的爭議性至今不滅。劉季易的作品企圖從這篇講稿出發,在無人能置身事外的爭議裡,探討一項爭議如何被看見、討論與發展的權力關係。
Peace for Atoms

In December 8, 1953, the former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered a speech “Peace for Atom” on a UN convention to offer an imagination on the nuclear weapon’s development for peace during the cold war era. This speech established the legitimacy for the US nuclear development scheme, and decorated the world competition of nuclear weapon. Liu revised this speech into his personal letter to Obama, convincing him that world peace will rely on the development of sustainable energy.

以反核為中心信念,而發展出的諾努客行動團隊,以策劃、參與、串聯起各種不同形態的文化行動,對社會運動提出了全新的想像空間與活力。此次參展分為兩個部份的呈現:在MEME覓空間將重現過去以虛擬事件介入現實的行動,作為尋求社會對話的演練;在一年畫廊的部份,將展示自2009年開始的行動紀錄和創作的文件展,呈現此團隊推動反核議題的歷程。
No Nukes
With the core belief to support the anti-nuclear campaign, No Nukes is a loosely but widely tied group of young people that organizes, participates and calls for different cultural actions to support this campaign. They operate as the imagination and energy booster to the current social movement in Taiwan with various approaches in creating the grassroots culture. Their presentation has two parts: in MEME space, the documentary video and news clippings of their street theatre and the culture jamming action on the internet show how they play with fictional narratives to intervene the reality, and create media effect. In One Year Gallery, the archive of work records, performance documents, and creative writing are shown to present their campaign process and history.

邁向幸福的十一個步驟 | 杜珮詩
《邁向幸福的十一個步驟》是一個教導家庭如何從瞭解核能輻射到因應核災的一系列拼貼作品。以加拿大緊急措施組織所公佈的「核武生存的十一步驟」(11 Steps to Survival) 做為參考文本,描繪出核變的因應步驟。其甜美童趣的畫面不但諷刺了災變防護的神話本質,並呈現出我們過分美好的想像與真實災難之間的巨大衝突。
11 Steps toward Happiness is a series of collages on the theme of how a family should prepare to protect themselves from a nuclear disaster. Taking reference from the booklet 11 Steps to Survival of Emergency Measure Organization in Canada, artists depicts these standard procedures with her delicately hand-crafted collage in a sweet colorful children book drawing style. The irony between the surface and the meaning of the contents reveals the serious gap between our naive imagination for a safe world and an actual disaster, and further cracks the nutshell of disaster prevention.

一號與狗 | 吳其育
以第一核電廠作為觀察基地,吳其育發現當地位於十八王宮廟旁的大狗公,或許就是附近居民對於生活平安、消災解難的宗教依歸。以此線索作為出發,作品影像呈現出一種無法深究其竟、近乎奇幻的核電廠觀察紀錄,並以無厘頭的敘事解構這些瞎子摸象般的紀錄畫面,暗喻目前社會上對於核能議題激辯失焦的短路狀態。
The Nuclear Power Plant & the Dog

Wu studied the site of the Taiwan Nuclear Power Plant No. 1, and found the Temple of Eighteen Gods in the neighborhood had a giant statue of dog, that could be the reliable figure the local people pray for their peace. The video discloses a fantasy like observation on the site of a nuclear power plant in a B movie tradition, to deconstruct the short circuit of the ongoing debates on the nuclear power policy in Taiwanese society.

我們所居的環境到底應該具有何種當代性的理想條件和思維,是樹梅坑溪環境藝術行動團隊在此計畫裡的提問與行動。以此社區作為一個城市鄉村的想像藍圖,藝術家邀集了各界人士,對此基地進行深度的調查,希望透過各種在地交流和行動,和當地民眾思索建構一個符合當代環保思維、資源和能源再生利用、人文生活豐富的生活可能。透過一條溪連結破碎的土地,低碳流域生活的可能想像或許有機會在此被實踐。
作品包含地圖、影像、文件與體驗活動。

What are those conditions and criteria for our ideal contemporary life today? Plum Tree Creek Environmental Art Action Team proposes a think tank project to portrait the ideas of building a low carbon footage basin in Zhu-Wei town. An in-depth field study is presented with remarks on the symptoms and possible solutions to reconnect the upstream and downstream of the Plum Tree Creek for an urban ecological community. Through a series of activities, this project aims to create an environmental friendly and culturally rich community life with the locals, and invites more idea contribution to examine our environment.

我們發電了 | We Create Power
We Create Power 是個提供非物質產品的臨時性通路,也是另類電力的開發商,相信創造力本身即是人類社會裡最根本的電力。這次參展的同名作品《我們發電了》提供了一個分享知識界面,邀請觀眾放棄被台灣電力公司所壟斷的電力知識通路,拋開擁核反核的選擇題,離開效率和成本的原則,重新去思考生活周遭能源的使用、開發和背後所表徵的權力關係。

As an alternative power developer, We Create Power offers a temporary distribution of non-material products. Believing that creativity is the essential energy of human society, this project creates an interface for knowledge sharing, and invites the audience to rethink the usage and application of all possible energy surrounding our everyday life. This project encourages audience to leave behind the choice of nuclear power and considerations of electricity efficiency and cost that Taiwan Power Company imposes on the public to loosen the power structure of energy policy.
